Hopkinton

Hopkinton, MA is a town located in Middlesex County and in the Metrowest region of Massachusetts. The latest population figures show a population of 14,112 (2005). The town is well-known due to being the location of the start of the Boston Marathon. It is also home to the corporate headquarters of EMC Corporation, the largest technology company in all of Massachusetts. Hopkinton is located roughly 30 miles to the west of Boston and 17 miles east of Worcester.

It has a long history of being a very friendly place to live. For example, the Board of Selectman actually write letters to all new residents describing everything that Hopkinton has to offer and invite these residents to become involved with Town Affairs. Local businesses also contribute greatly to community programs and projects. EMC itself is a major contributor to the town’s schools and recreational services.

Things to do in Hopkinton, MA

Hopkinton has a number of state parks including the 1,450 acre Hopkinton State Park (swimming areas, sailboat launch, barbecue areas, foot trails, picnic area, fishing at Hopkinton State Reservoir) and Whitehall State Park (fishing and small power boats allowed). There is also a town beach on Lake Maspenock called Sandy Island Beach. There are also a number of tennis courts and playgrounds around Hopkinton. As far as golf courses, you can play golf at the Saddle Hill Country Club or Hopkinton Country Club. On Patriots’ Day in April, you can watch the start of the Boston Marathon.

Hopkinton also has many cultural events. Some of these include the summer concert series on the Town Common, the Hopkinton Polyarts Festival, and the 4th of July
parade and bonfire.
