Southborough is part of the Metrowest region of Massachusetts and located approximately 25 miles to the west of Boston and 15 miles to the east of Worcester. It is located in a very convenient location because it is crossed by Route 9, the Mass Pike, and I-495 (Interstate 495). The MBTA commuter rail also stops in Southborough on the Framingham/Worcester line.
Southborough has a peaceful rural charm and contains many winding picturesque roads used by bikers, horses, and hikers. 25% of the town is covered by the Sudbury Reservoir. Land is mainly used for residential purposes with lots of open space. The town was rated number 31 on CNN Money’s 100 best places to live in 2009. There are tons of reservoirs, a town forest, and other activities for adults and children. Residents enjoy sports, recreational, and cultural activities through the Southborough Recreation Department. The name of Southborough is often shortened to Southboro.
In July of 2008, there was a population of 9,583, which is a 9.1% increase from the year 2000. For its closeness to major cities like Boston and Worcester, it surprisingly has a small town feel and quality of life.
As far as public high schools, students attend Algonquin Regional High School with residents of Northborough. There is also Assabet Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School in Marlborough. Southborough also is home to the well-known private school of St Mark’s.
According to Zillow.com, for Southborough real estate, the median list price is $647,700 and median sales price is $545,000 as of August 31, 2009. The large majority of homes are single family homes.
