Wayland

Wayland has a population estimated around 12,996 (July 2008 stats). It is part of Middlesex County and is one of the many towns that is considered part of the Metrowest area of Massachusetts. It is located roughly 17 miles west of Boston, and is bordered by Sudbury, Framingham, Natick, Concord, Lincoln, and Weston. It is an extremely affluent suburb of Boston and home to many executives who run the companies in the high tech areas around route 128 and route 495. Wayland’s cost of living is 54.93% higher than the rest of the country. Wayland is also known for its wonderful school system. It has a country charm, which is surprising due to its fairly close location to the Boston area. Many people in the town have funded the acquisition of property to allow lots of open space and maintaining the rural feel of the town and even established a national wildlife preserve. A section of Lake Cochituate also lies within Wayland and the town has a beach for its residents on the lake.

As far as Wayland real estate, Trulia.com reports an average listing price of $921,001 on their site as of the week ending August 26, 2009, and a median sales price of $543,500 between May 2009 through July 2009. Their average price per square foot was $280, which is a decrease of 23.9% in comparison to the previous year during the same period.
